BEATLES CONCERT´64 IN BALTIMORE, MARYLAND BY FAN

Beatles concert '64 in Baltimore,Maryland U.S.A.

Always and forever a Beatles fan. She saw them when I was 13 in Baltimore,Maryland.
Now, Dorrit , 58 years old remember that fabolous day.

Dorrit Takach
was in one of the greatest shows of The Beatles, at the height of Beatlemania. She recounts some of his experiences to Beatles Magazine, in this important occasion ...

LR: Since when you´re a fan of The Beatles?
DT: I've been a Beatles fan since I was 12, I'm now 58! ( I'm not 64 YET)
LR: What´s your favorite Beatle?

DT: When the Beatles first came out,Ringo was my favorite. A little later though, I loved each of them for different reasons. Each had an enchanting thing about them...

LR: What happened when you heard that The Beatles would play in Baltimore?

DT: My sister(who was sixteen then) and I heard they were coming to Baltimore on our Baltimore radio station. We screamed!

LR: How were those days of Beatlemania in Maryland?

DT: Beatlemania was alive and well in Maryland. The movie ,"A Hard Day's Night", was playing down the street from the concert. We saw the movie that day, too.(earlier in the day.)

LR:
Dorrit, you were the hotel where they stayed, please tell us...

DT: My sister and I DIDN'T stay at the hotel they were in.However, we stood outside across the street from it, and yelled with many other fans! We saw John shake the curtains, then Ringo came out on the balcony and waved to all of us! Everybody went crazy!
We KNEW they were at the Holiday Inn in Baltimore.Back then, Baltimore only had one decent hotel, and it was by their concert at the Civic Center.

LR: Y
ou remember some details of this big show in 1964?

DT: There were a couple opening acts before the Beatles. A popular woman singer, Jackie DeShannon was one of them. Of course, everybody was screaming for the Beatles.

I remember at one point in the Beatle concert,John shouted,"Alright everybody, clap your hands!"(everyone screamed) Then John shouted,"Okay then, stamp your feet!"(everyone STILL screaming) John then REALLY shouted, "ALL RIGHT THEN,JUST SCREAM!!!!" It was hilarious...

LR: See them up close?

DT: Didn't see them up close.(we were in the balcony) However, we saw them pretty well.(remember. most of us were jumping up and down in our seats!)
My sister and I had to take a bus to Baltimore to see the concert. My parents were scared, because 1) bad area in the city 2)pouring down rain.
The Beatles did two shows-4:00 and 8:30.We went to the afternoon show, after "A Hard Day's Night".

LR:
Have pictures of that day? preserves the show's ticket?

DT: Don't have photos, but recently received some copies from a Beatle Yahoo group member. She and I went to the same concert.(pretty amazing) She had actually some newspaper clippings from the newspaper, and printed them. She sent them in the mail to me. It was so sweet of her. An interview, an ad showing info about their concert, fun stuff!

LR:Surprise! Here have a ticket´photo:

LR:The Beatles’ only visit to Baltimore was on Sunday, September 13, 1964. They performed two shows at the Civic Center, to a total of 28,000 fans. The best seat in the house cost a mere $3.75. The support acts were The Bill Black Combo, The Exciters, Clarence ‘Frogman’ Henry, and Jackie DeShannon.... and another photo!: John Lennon was interviewed by Larry Kane as part of an on-going series of interviews with the group:

LR: Tell me Dorrit, you saw a show from another Beatle?

DT: Since then,I saw George's solo concert in the 70's, Paul in 1990(with Linda), and 2010. Sorry to say, never saw Wings,John, or Ringo solo.

LR: Excelent Dorrit, thanks so much for sharing your experience with everyone, and have a wonderful day on Thursday, it's your birthday. Thank you.

DT: Thank you Rita for this interview!
