JOHN and Yoko lookalikes led a march to protest against the closure of a Sure Start centre at the school Lennon attended.
The £1m state-of-the-art centre at the Dovedale School is set to close as Liverpool council tries to save £91m in the face of government budget cuts.
Since the threat of closure was revealed in February this year, parents have staged a number of protests and won the support of Yoko Ono.
This week scores of parents and local residents took to the streets of Mossley Hill to voice their opposition to the closure, with the John and Yoko lookalikes – in trademark white outfits – staged a ‘bed in’ protest like the one Lennon and his wife held at the Amsterdam Hilton in 1969.
Yoko said: “I am delighted to support the ‘bed in’ event. It is very much in the peaceful spirit of John’s and my own bed in.
“I was very sad to hear of the proposed closure of the centre as I know how much is it used and valued by parents and children in the community. I very much hope both this event and the campaign to keep the centre open are a great success.”
