No amount of coverage of the lives of the Beatles could make us say it’s all too much, and the cable networks are surely relieved to hear it. Following an announcement by HBO that it had acquired a documentary about George Harrison, Showtime said on Tuesday that it would broadcast a nonfiction feature about Paul McCartney and his experiences in New York after the 9/11 terrorist attacks. The film, “The Love We Make,” will chronicle Mr. McCartney’s journey from Sept. 11, 2001, when his plane was grounded on a New York tarmac, through his planning for and performance at the “Concert for New York City” at Madison Square Garden the next month. “The Love We Make” will feature footage from that concert as well as appearances by Mr. McCartney’s friends and colleagues, including David Bowie, Eric Clapton, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Pete Townshend, as well as his daughter Stella. It is directed by Bradley Kaplan and Albert Maysles, the venerated co-director of “Grey Gardens” and “Gimme Shelter,” as well as the 1964 documentary “What’s Happening! The Beatles in the U.S.A.”
