An appraisal on BBC's Antiques Roadshow has stirred debate among viewers, who believe a full set of The Beatles' signatures was significantly undervalued.
A woman appeared on a 2021 episode, recently highlighted on the show's YouTube channel, to have two sets of autographs appraised by expert Lisa Lloyd. The owner shared an incredible story from 1963, explaining how she met the band at a soundcheck and even had a water pistol fight with John Lennon. She then had all four members sign two separate notebooks.
The first set of signatures, spread across two different pieces of paper with one signature not being authentic, was valued at £800-£1,200. However, the second set was complete, with all four authentic signatures on a single piece of paper, which Lloyd valued at £2,000-£3,000.
While the owner was thrilled, many viewers were not convinced. Commenters on the video argued that the valuation was far too low, with some suggesting the autographs could be worth at least £20,000, or even as much as $15,000 USD. The consensus among fans is that the expert's estimate is just a fraction of the signatures' true worth.
