Three new Abbey Road songs were recorded on this day, although two of those were taped as one. Paul was the first of The Beatles to arrive at the studio, and on this day
used the time to tape Her Majesty. The song had been written in October
1968, and was premiered during the Get Back/Let It Be sessions on 9 and 24 January.
On this day Paul recorded three takes of the song, the first two
of which were incomplete, with just vocals and acoustic guitar. At the
end of the third attempt Paul listened to a playback, and Her
Majesty became a contender for the Abbey Road medley.John didn’t attend this session as he was recuperating from a car crash in Scotland. Once George and Ringo arrived, however, they began work on Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight, which at this stage had the working title Golden Slumbers.The Beatles recorded 15 takes of the backing track, which consisted
of Ringo’s drums,George´s bass guitar, and Paul’s piano and lead
vocals. The session ended at 8.30pm, and the best of the takes were
edited together the following day to create the final backing track.

The Beatles continued work on Good Night on this day, following an initial session on 28 June 1968.The first task of the session was the recording of lead and backing
vocals. The Beatles then recorded 10 new takes, numbered 6-15, the last
of which was taken away by George Martin so an orchestral score could be
prepared.The orchestra was recorded on 22 July. The song was started afresh on that date, so none of this day’s efforts were used.According to the tape log from this session, work on Good Night
continued beyond take 15, although these efforts are described as
outtakes. If the numbered takes went up to 22, however, it would explain
why the 22 July remake began with take 23.

The Beatles performed just once concert in Madrid in Spain. It took
place at the Plaza de Toros de Las Ventas, the city’s bullring, where Brian Epstein had watched a bullfight on the previous day.
The concert began at 8.30pm. By this point in the tour The Beatles
had become concerned at the level of violence they’d seen police use
against the fans.
The Beatles performed 12 songs in Madrid. It was the same set used throughout their 1965 European Tour:
Twist And Shout, She’s A Woman, I’m A Loser, Can’t Buy Me Love, Baby’s In Black, I Wanna Be Your Man, A Hard Day’s Night, Everybody’s Trying To Be My Baby, Rock And Roll Music, I Feel Fine, Ticket To Ride and Long Tall Sally.
