APPLE SELLING BEATLES iTUNES GIFT CARDS
Apple has started to sell Beatles-themed iTunes Gift Cards in stores. Spotted by iLounge, one card, with a value of $149, features an image of the band members in front of a white background, with the text “The Beatles Box Set” at the top. The Beatles’ digital Box Set includes remastered versions of all the band’s studio albums in iTunes LP format, as well Past Masters Vols. 1 & 2, a series of Mini Documentaries, and a film of the band’s performance at the Washington Coliseum from 1964.
Another card, with a value of $50, features an image of the four band members walking down the street, but doesn’t specifically mention the band by name. The cards represent yet another extension of the partnership between Apple and the Beatles that has included prominent placement on Apple’s home page as well as a series of television commercials.

THE FIVE MOST EXPENSIVE BEATLES COLLECTIBLES
Wikicollecting.org, a new collaborative wiki project for collectors, has created the a list of the top five most expensive collectibles associated with The Beatles. The popular band has spawned many museums and items that are associated with members of the band, especially in relation to the creation of their music, sell very well, often at auction at some of the world's top houses. The top collectibles are associated with the life and music of John Lennon.1) John Lennon's Rolls-Royce Phantom V – $2.23 million. In 1985, a psychedelic hand-painted Rolls-Royce Phantom V owned by John Lennon was sold by Sotheby's. This amazing car with custom modifications including a seat that converts to a double bed, a television and an interior-exterior sound system, is housed at the Royal BC Museum. Canadian businessman Jim Pattison donated the car to the museum.

STEVIE WONDER REMEMBERS JOHN, PAUL JAM SESION
After a bitter breakup and nasty callouts in their solo albums, Beatles legends John Lennon and Paul McCartney spent a night jamming together in Los Angeles. It's become stuff of legend -- and there was another music legend there who remembers it all.Talking to VMan Magazine, Stevie Wonder recalled that night of rock lore.
"I was in Studio B and they were in Studio A, at Record Plant, and they were jamming, putting stuff down, laying different tracks, trying to come up with something, really just having fun," Wonder told the magazine. "And I think we did 'Stand by Me' together, just being crazy. It was funny. I think Phil Spector was there, too...

THE BEATLES TENDRAN MONUMENTO EN SIBERIA
Un monumento a los Beatles se dará a conocer este verano en la ciudad siberiana rusa de Omsk, según dijeron funcionarios de la administración local, hoy.El monumento en el parque central de la ciudad contará con estatuas de tamaño natural del grupo, tal como aparecieron cruzando la famosa calle de Londres, para la portada de su album "Abbey Road" de 1969.

Autógrafos de John y Yoko Ono, obtenidos en Co Mayo hace más de 40 años, serán subastadas la próxima semana.
La Casa de subastas irlandesa Sheppard los ha valorado en € 500 a € 800 para su subasta del próximo miércoles por la tarde en Durrow, Co Laois.
El subastador Michael Sheppard dijo que los autógrafos los vendíó un hombre, adolescente, que pidió a la pareja firmar su libro de autógrafos durante su visita en 1968.
Ese verano, John Lennon y Yoko Ono se alojaron en el Hotel Gran Sur en Mulranny. Sheppard dijo que era adolescente y que se había "emocionado" y que fue al hotel el 23 de junio para pedir los autógrafos y se encontró con la famosa pareja que eran "tan dulces como el pastel".
Lennon estaba de visita allí, ya que había comprado Dorinish, una isla de 19 hectáreas deshabitadas en Clew Bay, el año anterior. Él había querido supuestamente construir una casa en la isla para su uso como retiro, pero el plan nunca se materializó.
En cambio, en 1970, le concedió permiso a ocupantes ilegales y activistas de los derechos de la tierra con sede en Londres como Sid Rawle, a utilizar la isla.
Rawle estableció una "colonia hippy" en Dorinish que duró dos años. El grupo de 25 efectivos, conocida como "Los Diggers", provocó una enorme publicidad y controversia en el momento.
Posteriormente a la muerte de John, Yoko vendió Dorinish a un granjero local y lo convirtió al pastoreo de ovejas.

JOHN LENNON BUS HOY EN FRESNO, CALIFORNIA
Seis estudiantes de la Universidad de la Escuela ya han publicado videos musicales profesionales en línea gracias a una parada en Fresno del John Lennon Bus en la Universidad Estatal Turística de la Educación en California, hoy.
El autobús, que fue posible por un acuerdo con Yoko Ono desde hace 14 años, viaja a conferencias de las escuelas, los musicales y la tecnología y eventos en todo el país para que los estudiantes puedan trabajar en un equipamiento de última generación proporcionado por los patrocinadores de tales como Avid, Apple, guitarras Gibson, Epiphone, Mont Blanc y Sony.
El bus de 67,5 metros y un remolque estará estacionado en la zona de carga frente a la Universidad de marcas a 2611 E. Camino Matoian justo al oeste de la Casa Smittcamp Alumni. De 9 am a 5 pm, los estudiantes de la escuela "charter" de la Universidad de Alta tendrán la oportunidad de hacer un video musical en un día con audio móvil del autobús y la grabación de vídeo HD y planta de producción en el interior.

Dueño de un pub ha recordado la noche en que los Beatles aparecieron por una copa.
Los Beatles habían tocado un concierto en 1963, cuando se detuvieron en el hotel Talbot en Holywell para tomar una bebida después de tocar.
El ex propietario Ian Brown, de 18 años en aquél tiempo, fue al concierto con su hermana de 17 años de edad, Moya, cuando la pareja invitó a John, Paul, George y Ringo al bar.

CATALOGO DE GEORGE: JOYAS VALIOSAS
En el catálogo de George, existen una cantidad de joyas olvidadas.
Muy pocas personas son conscientes de que George lanzó dos álbumes en solitario, mientras seguía siendo un Beatle. La primera es "Wonderwall Music" y el segundo es "Electronic Sound".
"Wonderwall Music" fue el primer disco en solitario de George y fue banda sonora de la película "Wonderwall", dirigida por Joe Massot, protagonizada por Jane Birkin, esposa de Serge Gainsbourg y madre de Charlotte Gainsbourg. Las canciones de "Wonderwall Music" fueron en gran parte instrumentales y temas experimentales, la grabación se inició a finales de 1967 y continuó hasta enero de 1968. Hay que tener en cuenta que era la música escrita para la película.
Fue un momento en que George estaba metido profundamente en la música India, en este punto llegó a ser bastante hábil para tocar el sitar. El álbum se abre con una pista hipnotizante llamada "Microbios", "Red Lady Too" es un bellísimo tema. Las progresiones de acordes, arreglos e instrumentación de esta canción son simplemente brillantes.
El tema "Dream scene", tiene al menos dos pistas diferentes, cintas invertidas, arpa, cítara y la instrumentación Indú. La canción se desarrolla lánguidamente hasta cerca de la mitad, cuando George entra en una explosión experimental antes de pasar una vez más en una transformación al jazz con inspiración india. Lo acompaña ruidos sónicos y culmina con una ambientación de campanas.
"Electronic Sound" es un album con una plantilla de música más concreta-que probablemente tiene algo que ver con el hecho que George manejaba uno de los sintetizadores por esos tiempos: Moog . Además, estaba familiarizado con compositores como Karlheinz Stockhausen, una influencia en la era musical psicodélica de los Beatles. De hecho, la portada del álbum de George es original, con un músico sentado frente a sus sintetizadores modulares aparentemente flotando en el cielo.
Y así, "Electronic Sound" no es precisamente fácil de escuchar, pero interesante, puramente experimental. Es un material de valor incalculable en los anales de la historia del sintetizador, que debe haber tenido efectos en varias bandas .

NUEVO ALBUM DE BEN HARPER CONTIENE DOS TEMAS CO-ESCRITOS CON RINGO
Ben Harper está por lanzar su décimo álbum “Give till it’s gone”. Lo ha grabado en el estudio de Jackson Browne, en Los Ángeles, quien además colabora en la canción ‘Pray that our love sees the dawn’. Dos de los nuevos temas han sido compuestos a medias con Ringo, y en los cuales ejecuta su batería.
El primer single, ‘Rock n’ roll is free’, lo compuso Harper después de telonear a Neil Young, en Londres, el pasado verano. Virgin Records publicará “Give till it’s gone” el 17 de mayo.

Though Lennon-McCartney wrote the vast majority of Beatles’ tunes, George Harrison proved his compositional chops whenever he had the chance. On what would have been his 68th birthday, we look back on his some of his best-loved Beatles songs.Don’t Bother Me
George penned this tune while holed up in a Bournemouth, England hotel room with the flu during a summer tour in 1963. Though he’s credited with writing some Quarrymen material, this is the first Harrison-penned tune the band released, including it on their 1964 U.S. album Meet The Beatles. Harrison later said he wrote “Don’t Bother Me” just to see if he could write a song and didn’t think highly of it. The minor key, brooding tune was in contrast to the bouncy pop of Fab Four era Beatles and served as precursor of sorts to the darker corners they’d explore as the '60s wore on. The tune was also featured in a sequence in the 1965 film A Hard Day’s Night.
If I Needed Someone
In addition to being included on The Beatles’ seminal Rubber Soul album, this song was released simultaneously by The Hollies. The latter band considered recording the song a mistake as it was one of their few early releases not to be a big hit (it peaked at #20 on the U.K. charts). Harrison was dismissive of The Hollies’ version, leading to a public spat between the bands. The track shows the influence of another Beatles contemporary, The Byrds, with an opening guitar riff reminiscent of Roger McGuinn’s “The Bells of Rhymney.” This tune was the only George Harrison song the band played on tour. Here’s a ragged rendition from a concert in Tokyo in 1966, just one month before the road weary band gave up touring for good.
Taxman
For those among you who think U.S. taxes are too high, consider: when George Harrison wrote this song in 1966, each member of the Beatles was in the U.K.’s highest tax bracket, which meant they were subject to a 95% supertax. Harrison wrote the song out of anger, and the “Mr. Heath” and “Mr. Wilson” called out in the song were Conservative party leader Edward Heath and Labour party leader Harold Wilson – the latter having nominated The Beatles for the MBE just the year before. The song is sometimes cited as an example of Harrison’s scintillating guitar work – but many are surprised to learn that the snarling lead solo was actually played by Paul McCartney. In 1981, Weird Al Yankovic paid the song a high compliment by recording a parody version called “Pac-Man” about the videogame craze then sweeping America. The song has also been covered by Stevie Ray Vaughan, Nickel Creek and Pat Travers.
Here Comes the Sun
It was 1969 and George Harrison was having a difficult year. The band were having business troubles, he’d been busted for marijuana possession, had temporarily left the Beatles and had even had his tonsils removed. Perhaps he needed something to lift his spirits, and there no better spirit-lifting song than “Here Comes The Sun.” Harrison wrote the tune while visiting his friend Eric Clapton. “It was just a really nice sunny day,” he told the BBC. “And I picked up the guitar, which was the first time I'd played the guitar for a couple of weeks because I'd been so busy. And the first thing that came out was that song.” It was the first George Harrison song released as a Beatles A-side single.
While My Guitar Gently Weeps
The Beatles’ world changed a great deal between 1966 and 1968. They’d quit touring and recorded their masterpiece Sgt. Pepper's, Brian Epstein had died, and the band had come under the sway of and eventually fallen out with Indian guru Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. During the recording of the White Album – to be the first release on their newly-formed Apple Records – Ringo briefly left the band and John Lennon brought Yoko Ono into the studio, much to the others' chagrin. “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” conveys a weary resignation amidst all the tumult (Harrison says the song was inspired by reading the I Ching, also known, significantly, as “The Book of Changes”). Unsatisfied with his own efforts at soloing, Harrison called Eric Clapton to play on the track. When George Harrison died on November 29, 2001, “NBC Nightly News” aired this song instead of their usual lead-in music.

CONCERT FOR GEORGE SALE EN BLU-RAY ESTE 22 DE MARZO
Un año después del fallecimiento de George, Olivia Harrison, organizó, el 29 de noviembre de 2002, un concierto de homenaje donde sus amigos entre ellos Paul, Ringo, Eric Clapton, Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne, Billy Preston, Ravi Shankar, Jools Holland y el grupo de Monty Python estuvieron presentes.
El próximo 22 de marzo, “Concert for George”, será editado por Rhino en Blu-ray y descarga digital. Pero hoy mismo, y durante 24 horas, el concierto puede Ud. verlo en su integridad, en streaming, en la web de George.
“Concert for George” se presenta en un doble disco que ofrece el concierto más entrevistas, ensayos e imágenes fuera del escenario. El segundo disco incluye una pieza inédita titulada ‘Drummers’, interpretada por Ringo Starr, Jim Keltner y Ray Cooper.

ALL THINGS MUST PASS (1970). Sin discusión alguna, el mejor disco en solitario de George, para muchos. En cada surco, se percibe a un Harrison maduro y con gran desarrollo, genialidad de disco. Todos son éxitos en este album. Un disco mayúsculo de principio a fin.
